Rio Equestrian Club owns School horses which serve to the conduction of various courses and multiple educational programs. In addition, the Club accommodates horses owned by members/athletes or/and students. Under the main responsibility of the owners, horses are carefully attended (food and grooming) by the staff.

Among others, Rio Equestrian Club houses the rare species of Skyrian horses. The Skyros breed, is associated with the Great Alexander’s horses and on the basis of a recent scientific approach, it was developed in America around a million years ago. In the Ancient years, such horses are detected in Athens, Lesvos, Thasos and Rhodes, while they are later relocated to the island of Skyros by Athenian colonists. Historical sources also reveal that Skyrian horses were of great support during the Greek War of Independence and they were generally known for their agricultural uses.

Unfortunately, environmental changes and the mechanization of agriculture increased the danger of extinction and today, the Skyrian horse is a protected species. Besides Rio Equestrian Club, we only meet the breed in a few more Clubs in Greece (Skyros, Corfu). Their appealing look and their small size, make them ideal for children who wish to take up riding.

Abiding by the basic rules of Hygiene, the Club is highly committed to the maintenance of the stables’ facilities, preserving a healthy environment for the horses. Knowing that orientation in space is fundamental for animals, the Club owns a wide area of land for training purposes.

Curators show loyalty and professionalism to the tasks of grooming and cherishing horses as unique and loving animals. Rio Equestrian Club brings all the necessary guarantees, to a serious and reliable association, as the enchanting world of horses settles for no less…
